According to The Hindu report, those who died include 77-year-old Kaliyattuparambath Kumaran of Vattoli in Kozhikode district and 82-year-old Palakkandi Abdullah of Panur in Kannur district. After Kumaran’s death on Friday, a lab test confirmed that Covid was the cause of his death. On Saturday, Abdullah died due to infection while being treated for cough and difficulty in breathing at a private hospital in Kozhikode.
New Covid variant found in Kerala
A new sub-variant of Covid JN.1 has been detected in this southern state of the country. On December 8, the sub-variant was detected in RT-PCR positive samples from Karakulam in Thiruvananthapuram district. The sample of a 79-year-old woman was tested by RT-PCR on November 18, which was found infected. The woman had mild symptoms of influenza-like illnesses (ILI) and has recovered from COVID-19.
Government alerted in Tamil Nadu also
According to PTI, all precautionary measures to prevent Covid have started being taken in Tamil Nadu. Health Minister Ma Subramaniam said health department officials have been asked to take necessary steps to contain the spread of the virus and if a rise in cases is seen in a specific area and cases of fever are reported, RTPCR tests will be conducted. Has been asked for. Till December 15, 36 cases of infection were reported in Tamil Nadu.
Central government in touch with state health ministry
Under the rules of the Union Health Ministry, mock drills have been organized in all the health facilities of Kerala, so that the preparedness of the hospitals can be assessed. A government press release said the Health Ministry is in touch with state health officials and the situation is being monitored. Most cases of Covid have mild symptoms and can be cured at home without any treatment. Various entry points of Kerala are being monitored.
What preparations are going on in Kerala?
Health officials have asked for strict monitoring in government and private hospitals. In view of the increasing number of fever patients, people who have trouble breathing, chest pain, low blood pressure and difficulty in eating have been asked to immediately consult a doctor. People with symptoms of Covid-19 have been advised to get tested. People have been told that those who are negative in the antigen test should undergo RT-PCR test.
It has been advised to keep Covid-19 patients in a separate ward. Patients and their caregivers in the hospital have been asked to wear masks. If the caregivers and hospital staff have any problems, they have been advised to get their Covid test done immediately. People who feel that they can easily get infected with Covid. They have been asked to wear masks even in public places.
Mock drill in hospitals in Karnataka
The state government has decided to conduct mock drills in hospitals in Karnataka. The government has also convened a technical advisory committee on Covid-19 on Tuesday. Instructions have been issued by the government to purchase testing kits. This includes RT-PCR test, rapid antigen test and VTM (viral transport medium). Through mock drill, it is being ascertained how many beds are there including ICU beds, availability of oxygen and medicines.
Where was the sub-variant first found in India?
According to news agency PTI, JN.1 infection was detected in an Indian traveler in Singapore. This person is a native of Tiruchirappalli district of Tamil Nadu and had traveled to Singapore on October 25. Despite cases of infection from JN.1 being reported in Tiruchirappalli district or other places in Tamil Nadu, there has been no increase in Covid cases. No other cases of JN.1 sub-variant have been reported in India.

The sub-variant JN.1 of Covid-19 was first identified in the European country Luxembourg. From here it spread to many countries. This sub-variant is related to the Pirolo variant (BA.2.86). How many cases of Covid in India?
According to the Union Health Ministry’s data updated till Saturday, the total number of Covid-19 cases in India has increased by 339 new cases.
